Tiger Temple Tour Thaialnd
The Tiger Temple practices a different conservation philosophy than in the west. The temple opens daily for visitors at about 12pm, and the tigers are walked back to their enclosures at around 4pm. Due to the pressing need for income, the temple now charges 500 Baht admission. Day trips are also available from Bangkok. The temple now receives 300 to 600 visitors a day. While in Kanchanaburi, Thailand I had mentioned to my wife that I wanted to have a ride on the elephant so we travelled to Saiyok Elephant Park and the elephants looked well kept and in good condition. However the driver of the elephant kept hitting him on the head with an 'ankush' or a sharp hook and laughing. I could see on top of the elephants head a warn area where it gets hit, the moral of this is if you don't like elephant cruelty don't ride and keep away from these type of activities. www.filminglocationsdetectives.com (c) Roland Keates
I don't believe they care for the tigers well. The tiger temple is a brilliant business, monks make a lot of money there. Before you decide to go there, please read this document: www.careforthewild.com Every person visiting the temple helps the monks make money, but I don't think its used to help wild animals.
The first tiger was brought to the Pha Luang Ba Tua Buddhist Temple in 1998 after being injured by a hunter, but died within days. Soon after, two very ill cubs arrived with large knife wounds in their stomachs. Miraculously, they survived, and the temple quickly earned a reputation as a tiger haven. " When the villagers saw how we tended to the first tigers they brought others. Some were injured by hunters who had a change of heart, others by people who did not want the tiger near their village but also did not want to see it die," Phusit said. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) estimates that there are between 150 and 500 tigers remaining in the wild in Thailand. Healthy tigers from the Temple are sent back to the forest once they are ready to return. To return to the wild, the tigers do not have far to go. The tiger temple sits on a small plain surrounded by jagged rocky outcrops about 40 kilometers beyond the famous World War II - The Bridge on the River Kwai. A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Kanchanaburi, Thailand by TravelPod blogger Andrewandlaura titled "Kanchanaburi and Erawan Falls!" Andrewandlaura's travel blog entry: "Hello Everyone! We are wrapping up our last night in Kanchanaburi, but it's been a while since our last entry.. so here's the update! We took the train from Thonburi Station (Bangkok Noi) to Kanchanaburi (Kan as the locals say). The ride was only 3 hours long and we were well taken care of. The woman across from us always offered us food if she was eating.. however as we declined her offer, she politely declined our offer of mini bananas. When Andrew offered her bananas, she seemed to think he was confirming that they were indeed bananas, rather than offering her one. It was quite funny to watch the 2 of them gesturing to each other. After a long and sweaty trudge to the guesthouse we were quite pleased to find a beautiful bungalow on stilts overlooking the historic River Kwai. We have a great little veranda thats rustic and lovely to read on at night. The interior of our bungalow is maintained at a constant 18 degrees, so the Ice Queen as Andrew has dubbed Laura, will be comfortable. We sometimes wake up in the night shivering, much to Laura's delight. ;) We've also been enjoying the wildlife at Blue Star. Not only is it overrun by cats and little kittens, geckos rule the ceilings while ants control the bathrooms. There's also a little bird that likes to be poked in the tummy. He talks ...
